city of books

I went on a little adventure this weekend. I hopped a train and went down to Portland, Oregon for the day. It's only about a four ride by train and it was lots of fun! I love trains!

Of course, one can't go to Portland without visiting, Powell's Books, a massively huge bookstore, "City of Books" they call it. A full city block of new and used books.

According to their website, they have over a million books on their shelves and they buy 3,000 used books over the counter per day!

Whenever I visit bookstores, I have to check out the cat book section. It was tucked away in the aisle of books about pets.

As you can see each bookshelf has about nine shelves filled with books. There were three bookshelves dedicated to horse books, five of dog books, six of bird books and only one lonely bookshelf of cat books! What's the deal with that?!?!

The world needs more cat books!

  1. We love Portland! Mom lived there for nearly 20 years and she is still homesick. And Powells...always the best!

  2. My 3-year-old grandnephew loves trains! I hope some day he will be able to ride one.

So did you buy a cat book? Perhaps cat owners buy more cat books, thus the low supply :)

  3. Only one??? That's a down-right shame!

Looks like a really neat place, though. Happy Monday!

  5. Maybe cat owners won't give up their books once they have them, unlike dog owners and horse owners..

  6. Neat-o! Our humans say they could spend days at Powell's and with as often as they have been gone lately, we think maybe they have been! Purrs...

  7. I have been there before--a very tempting place. You have to sell your cat books if you want to fill their shelves.
