motoring

Oliver has quite the purr when he's completely relaxed. Here's a short sample.

Enjoy.

Oliver is a very clever cat. He recently has learned to open the front porch screen door by pushing against it. We place an old shoe and rug against the door to keep it from opening easily but those things are no match for a determined Oliver.

Once he gains access, the door closes behind him and he's trapped until I let him back out. There are days when I come home from work to find Oliver camped out on the front porch.

I'm still working on a fix to this. We have the ability to latch the door to secure it but the problem is the mailbox is on the inside of the porch, so the door must be unlatched during the day so the post-person can deliver the mail.

  3. Maybe you could install the mailbox on the outside of the porch.

  6. We think a doggy door for Oliver or a mail slot and basket for the carrier :)

  7. I also have one cat that can manage doors by pushing them open using her face--Marigold. She was a stray from Tacoma I got out of the shelter, and I think it is the "street smarts" of cats loose outdoors, that gives them the ability to attempt the seemingly impossible.

  8. Oliver sounds like my Grayce!! She has the most disorganized, rusty bucket purr I've ever heard.

  9. Oliver has a real nice purr, but if my Human ever tried that belly-rubbin' action with me, she'd be wearing a blood glove afterward.

  10. Teach him how to get back out, if the door isn't too tightly sprung. :-) I have a few kitties that can push doors open with their heads but I also have just as many that can pull the door open with their paws.. It all keeps me on my toes. The idea of the kitty door sounds like it might be the easiest..

  11. Shoot -- there aren't ANY doors around here that I can open, which is prolly just as well considering there's only a busy street outside! We lives in the middle of a Big City and we don't gots any yard. Sigh.

  12. That;s a pretty good purr, but we think our Astrid and Calista could give him a run for his money! A bucket of cat litter is pretty good at keeping us from getting a door open, but don't tell Oliver we told you.
