cats rule Seattle

The Seattle Times posted a very interesting article yesterday, "In Seattle, it's cats, dogs and kids - in that order".

According to the article, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington DC are the only major US cities where less than 20% of homes have children. As you can see in San Francisco, there are more dogs than children per household but in Seattle it's all about the cats. Significantly more cats than kids!

We're doing our part to help these statistics; no kids, no dogs - only cats!

There are many things I don't like about the Pacific Northwest, but this I do like! Looking at the map below you'll see that four of the top six metro areas, ranked by the percentage of people who have a cat, are in the Pacific Northwest. Interesting that Southern New Hampshire makes the list too, since that is where I grew up! It must have been destiny that I became a cat guy!

It would be interesting to see how Seattle compares with other cities around the world.
