Buddy's adventure

We've known for a long time (over a year) that Buddy has a little bump on his neck, right about where his head starts. We haven't worried much about it but recently Laura noticed the little bump had nearly doubled in size. He's not been acting any different, so we're not really worried, just being cautious. So, it was time for the vet to have a look.

A few pre-vet visit tummy rubs

Waiting in the waiting room

Refusing the treat bribe and thus avoiding the indignities that occur on the table

Planning escape

Mid-vet visit tummy rubs

The vet took a look and suggested aspirating the bump so a sample could be sent to the pathology lab. So, that's what we did. We should find out the results either Saturday or Monday.

Back in the safe place

I also asked about his arthritis in his back legs which seems to be getting worse. She suggested starting a low dose steroid, a treatment I'm not thrilled about, but he's been having more and more difficulty getting up sometimes. We've used Cosequin successfully in the past, but it started irritating his tummy, causing him to hork and no eat.

All done, time to go home!

I'm outta here!

Now we wait for the results. Meanwhile, Buddy's happy to be back home!

Have a great weekend!!

  1. We have a cat on steroids to help with arthritis but what we have found to be really successful is "PAW Osteosupport".It's for dogs, and is made from green lipped mussels, so completely natural with no side effects. We haven't had to use painkillers on our girl since she's been on it.

  2. Paws crossed the lump is nothing serious! My Kona has bad hips too and she LOVES her heated bed; I think it eases her aches a lot.

    1. Buddy once had a heated bed, but then it was moved to Oliver's room which can get chilly at night. Maybe it's time to spring for a second one.

  3. Careful with steroids... They can induce an onset of diabeties in some cats!!!! I've seen it happen, especially with the injectable kind!!!! Use caution!!!

  4. Hoping the lump is nothing to worry about. Charlie had a big one on his side and had to have surgery to remove it but it was not cancerous and has not come back after 5 years. Wishing Buddy success with his new meds! Hugs!

  5. I had a cat brother who had a whole bunch of lumps. The vet did an aspiration and they turned out to be just fluid-filled. So, that is what I'm hoping for you!

  6. We hope that bump of Buddy's is just fluid too.....AND am anxious to hear about his arthritis - Sammy is beginning (at age 14) to limp a bit but he's always had a "wonky knee" (vet's term!!) - just more noticeable now. It's QUITE cold so I'm thinking that may be part of the problem. Fingers crossed for Buddy!!!

  7. Purrs from the boys that Buddy's lump is benign, nothing to be concerned about. And we hope you find something that work well for him re: the arthritis, with no side-effects!

  9. Cats all seem to act at the vet. Peep grew several black lumps on his face over the years. They were cancer, but they were easily completely removed. They were not responsible for his later demise. Older cats like Buddy just seem to get more problems as time goes by. The important thing is to nip them in the bud!!!

    1. I meant to say: Cats all seem to act THE SAME WAY at the vet!

  10. Wes is purring that the lump is nothing. And me has arthritis. Me has a heating pad that me sleeps on when it is cold and it really helps!

  11. Here's hoping Buddy gets a clean bill of health. I like the heat pad idea. Skootch also loves his tuffet - it's covered with a leopard fake fur, but has a flexible reflective layer inside that reflects the heat back to the cat (I got it form a Drs. Foster + Smith catalog). My sister got one for her eldercat, and she loves it too.
