let there be more warmth!

Thanks everyone for the many positive affirming comments yesterday. I feel blessed to have such a wonderful cat-loving wife and great blogging friends. Thanks again!

The Fed-Ex man beat the snow and delivered the second outdoor heating pad yesterday. I got that installed in the smaller kitty house so now both kitty houses are fully insulated and heated! That's more than can be said for the human house - it only has heat, no insulation!

The outdoor cats didn't waste any time either, as both outdoor kitty houses were occupied last night! Seeing the results of the heating pad on the thermometer made me a happy camper last night. Each of these pictures were taken at 10:18pm, yesterday evening, when the temperature inside my house was 69.4°F (20.8°C). I'll walk you through the other readings.

Thermometer location: Dining Hall (outside air temp)
Outside temp: 32.0°F (0°C)
Relative humidity: 84%

Thermometer location: Inside smaller kitty house
Small kitty house temp: 51.2°F (10.7°C)
Relative humidity: 83%

Thermometer location: Inside Oliver's house (large kitty house)
Oliver's house temp: 53.2°F (11.8°C)

As you can see, it is much warmer in the insulated kitty houses than it is outside. And remember, this is air temperature. The temperature on the heating pad will be much warmer! I slept better last night, knowing that both houses were heated and all of Oliver's family were safe and warm.

I just got word that today's "how to trap feral cats" class is being cancelled due to the snowy weather. I'm bummed, but Nancy, the woman teaching the class, said she would call me back to discuss my questions about the TNR process. She also said the class would be rescheduled sometime - that's good news! It sounded like there were quite a few people planning to attend, how cool is that?!

  1. I am pleased both houses are now heated, especially with all that snow. It is cold over here as well but no snow!

Good luck with the course when it is rescheduled!

    1. You are the best cat Dad. That was so wonderful of you to get a second heater. What a great solution for the whole family. I am glad Oliver and his family are staying with you and Laura. They are well taken care of.

  2. How nice is that for the Outdoor Crew! We have discovered that Henry, our stray, belongs to the people (renters) two houses up. He obviously is NOT well cared for, and is intact; so Scott and I are stumped as to WHAT to do next.

    1. My parents cared for several strays and would have neutered him regardless of an owner. Do you think they'd object if you asked for permission to have it done? My guess is most people wouldn't care if they didn't have to pay for it. On the other hand, there are always the exceptions...

  3. Oh so happy for the outside kitties to be warm in this cold weather. You are such a good guy and your wife is a Cat Lady even if she won't admit it! Hugs, Linda

  4. Snow falling here just south of you as I write. Temperature in the fifties in the houses is fine--especially if you have your own black fur coats!
