Hershey gets a home!

Good news! It looks like Hershey may have found his new home!!

The prospective adopter came by and hung out with Hershey for nearly 1½ hours. Hershey did great, it didn't take long for him to be asking for pets. After lots of play and hanging out, the adopter said he wants Hershey!! The plan is for me to deliver him on Wednesday evening. Yahoo for Hershey, I think he'll do well in his new home.

I feel some angst about giving him up, but it does help having met the adopter and having a strong sense that he will be cared for well. I insisted on follow-up pictures and stories!

I imagine actually leaving him at someone's home and driving away will not be easy.

After the visit, Hershey got a rare treat, he got some supervised time down in the general population. He loves having the house to explore, which he doesn't usually get because he harasses the resident cats.

Hershey loves the tunnel. It's one of his favorite games, running through and pouncing out the side of the tunnel. He would probably just hang out in there all day if given the chance.

With Hershey on the loose, all the other cats were on high alert! They all kept a sharp eye on Hershey's whereabouts.

I tried to get a jump photo, but he was too quick!

The party ended when Hershey pounced on Nahum.

  1. This is GREAT news, Phil! And the prospective adopter understands Hershey's propensity to bite? Please say the person is going in with eyes wide open and will be able to deal with that behaviour appropriately!

  5. Great news about Hershey. I trust his potential parent knows about the biting? Hopefully if he is the solo cat and has the run of the house he'll calm down. Go for you for getting to know his adopter. That makes it easier to leave him in his new home.

  6. that is amazing!!!! It will be hard, but satisfying to leave him with his new family. Getting to meet them always makes it easier. I have to admit, I was all for the adoption of Bourbon and Moonshine, but I almost lost it when I left the store and the boys left with their new mom and dad. I KNOW Hershey will have a great home......

  7. How wonderful! While it made my eyes leaky, we all know it is for the best, and I think Hershey was reminding you of that by pouncing on Nahum.

I find when I have a hard time returning kittens that it helps a lot to focus on each individual step. aka I need to get them in a carrier to get them going. I need to load them in the car, I need to drive to the shelter.. and then once I've 'done the deed' I need to go home and spend time with The Crew or clean up the kitten room, etc.. it is only when I stop that it hits me, and it helps to remind myself it is for the best..

    Congratulations to Hershey's new owners.

  9. I hope Hershey's new owner has kitty experience. That furbaby sounds like he will need a firm hand or no other cats :)

  10. I know you will be sad when he leaves, but this is still great news. He needs a loving home where he is the King Kat and can have full reign of the house. So happy. Thanks for taking care of him.

  15. I am sort of sad but am praying that the home that Hershey is going to is a good one.
Hoping they also DO follow up with you as to photos. I paid for a family to adopt a cat at an adoption event last year and I have received ONE photo and ONE update. I will miss Hershey
