Coast Starlight

map courtesy of Amtrak.com
I thought I would share my pictures from my recent train trip. These are from the Amtrak Coast Starlight, traveling North from Los Angeles to Seattle. It was such a fun train ride with many beautiful things to see as we zoomed by. I brought things to do, but I spent most of the time just gazing out the window, soaking in the beauty.

Riding first class is certainly the way to go. Having now traveled first class, it would be very difficult to return to coach class. Amtrak provides many special bonuses for first class, such as a daily wine and cheese tasting of local wines and cheeses and a special lounge at Los Angeles Union Station.

Many of the original telegraph wires and poles remain along the track

Old signal tower just before Portland, Oregon station.

Miles and miles of lovely views. I really appreciated seeing the gradual shift from dry, desert landscape to the green and vibrant forests of the Northwest. I was bummed to have missed out on seeing Northern California due to the darkness.

  1. People often need to be away from home in order to appreciate home more. I may take this trip one day just for the fun of it.
